Some coffees make you stop mid-sip and think: this is different. And that is exactly the feeling we want to capture with our new coffee line, Abraço at The Folks.

Meet Abraço, a coffee roasted by the Folks in Lisbon and produced in a microlot in Costa Rica. Lets explore what makes this debut special.

Abraço: Costa Rica Microlot Coffee

Abraço comes from the highlands of Piedades Sur, Alajuela, located in the north-central part of Costa Rica. It is produced by Don Luis Eduardo Campos at his farm, Cordillera del Fuego.

Don Luis is known for experimenting with new processing methods and has developed his own approach to thermic fermentation (more about that later), resulting in a coffee that stands out for its unique and delicious taste.

Thats why microlot coffees, like Abraço, are often limited in quantity but exceptional in quality — each cup tells the story of a place, a harvest, and the people behind it.

What is a Microlot?

A microlot is a small, carefully selected plot of coffee on a farm. Unlike larger batches, a microlot is typically selected due to its unique flavor potential, specific altitude, or specialized processing method. Farmers and producers dedicate extra attention to these lots, ensuring the coffee expresses its purest character.

What to Expect in the Cup

Abraço has warm flavors of cinnamon and brown sugar, with hints of sun-dried raisin and a smooth, rum-like finish. The coffee is full of character and shows the skill behind Costa Ricas coffee heritage.

Ask anyone in Costa Ricas coffee world about Don Luis, and theyll tell you the same thing: hes always experimenting, always searching for the next step forward. Campos’ mix of creativity and experience leads to coffees that impress even experts.

Thermic fermentation is an innovative process in which coffee cherries are carefully heated during fermentation. This controlled application of heat accelerates chemical reactions, influencing sweetness, aromatics, and body.

  • Enhanced Sweetness: The heat accentuates natural sugars, giving Abraço its signature brown sugar and raisin notes.
  • Spice Development: Cinnamon-like aromatics emerge during the fermentation, adding a unique warmth.
  • Smooth Finish: The method creates a silky, rum-like finish with a velvety mouthfeel.

This process demonstrates how experimentation in coffee can lead to extraordinary and memorable flavor experiences. Now, discover how to brew Abraço to highlight these qualities.

Brew Guide for Abraço

To bring out the best in Abraço, we recommend the following Origami recipe:

  • Coffee: 18 g (medium-coarse grind)
  • Water: 270 g total
  • Pouring Steps:

    40 g to bloom (wait 35 seconds)

100 g for the second pour

Two pours of 65 g each

This method highlights Abraços layered sweetness and balances its spiced complexity. Thats our recommended approach – next, see why our sourcing philosophy matters.

Voices from The Folks“Out of all the coffees we offer, this one’s my personal favorite. It’s like drinking a warm cinnamon bun—sweet, spiced, and incredibly cozy. It strikes the perfect balance between being an easy everyday cup and something with a unique twist. I often find myself making a second cup without even thinking about it.”
